 Jonathan M. Leahy, B.M. - Percussionist/Composer/Instructor
A graduate of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, Jonathan enjoys a wide variety of performance and teaching opportunities. In 2005 he completed his Bachelor of Music degree, having studied with Dr. Payton MacDonald and Dr. Alison Shaw. He teaches private percussion lessons ranging from elementary beginners to experienced high school level. Several of Jonathan’s compositions have been performed at the University. Rain Child (for percussion ensemble and flute), Dreamscape (for percussion quartet), Genesis, and To Dance the Starry Sky (both for solo marimba) are among his publicly performed works. Most recently his Prelude #1 for Flute and Marimba was premiered at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Percussion Showcase.
Jonathan has performed with the Fox Valley Symphony, Manitowoc Symphony, Oshkosh Symphony, The Attic Theatre, The Grand Opera House and various other Wisconsin groups and organizations. He is currently the Percussion Ensemble Director for the Oshkosh Youth Symphony and a member of the Percussive Arts Society and Wisconsin Alliance for Composers. He continues to teach private and group lessons in the Fox Valley area and continues to write new contemporary music. His most current project is the Synergy Percussion Duo, founded in 2005 with fellow percussionist Adam Frank.* His body of work continues to grow as he explores more avenues to write contemporary and educational music.
